Medical care in the United States is very expensive. International students attending SMC are therefore mandated to purchase a comprehensive medical insurance policy through SMC. This policy is underwritten by Nationwide Life Insurance Company, and is paid for by each student at the time of enrollment. Under this policy, each student must first visit SMC’s Health Center to receive a referral for further treatment. A representative from the insurance company is available to meet with students three days a week at the International Education Counseling Center (IECC).
For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact the IECC at (310) 434-4218. The insurance company may be reached directly at (818) 610-0660 or toll free at (888) 587-4747. You may also visit them online at http://www.sismed.org/.
